We’ve been staying in a very pretty campground in Nova Scotia lately. It’s a beautiful place, but not very adventurous. So, I thought now would be a good time to tell you how Tom and I met. But first, let me tell you about the Shelter Dog’s Code: it doesn’t matter what happened before. Tom volunteered at the shelter where he adopted me, so he knows a bit more about my past than most people who adopt.
I was brought to the shelter as a puppy. When I was about 8 months old, Tom started walking me and the other dogs a couple times a week. By that time, I had already been adopted and returned twice. My greatest joy in life was making up new games for my handlers, like “Bet You Can’t Get The Leash Back”, and “No Way To Get My Harness On”. That’s right, I was a Bad Doge. My nickname was “The Monster”.
Poor Tom! He had never had a dog before, and only started walking us so that he could see what it was like. He had no idea how to handle me. But, we got along, and I soon became his favorite. Of course, I still played my games with him. It’s what I do. Eventually, he started taking me for longer walks in the park across the street.
Then, one day, Tom came in to pick me up out of the shelter for the last time. He said, “Come on, let’s go home”. I didn’t know what he meant, because as far as I knew, I was already home. On our way out, we stopped to talk to one of the Vet assistants. He said “Goodbye Monster, love you, don’t come back”!
And the rest, as they say, is history. I’m proud to say that at 3 years old, I am now a (mostly) Good Doge. Tom regularly gets compliments on how well-behaved I am. Which only goes to prove, every dog has his day. I’m so lucky, I have a whole lifetime of days ahead! I can hardly wait to see what happens next!
Love it! You two were meant for each other. Nice hearing from both of you.
You are lucky guys!!! 🙂 😉
So glad to hear things are going so well!!
