Sadly, I haven’t had any new adventures to tell you about lately. It’s been cold and rainy since we reached Canada, so Tom and I have been holed up in our rolling den. Instead, I decided to tell you about the time I went on a boat in Florida. This was one of my favorite places during our whole trip.
We were staying with Tom’s cousins in their den by the water. There was also another dog living there, but he was old and grouchy and wouldn’t play with me. They always left the back door open, so me and the other dog could go out whenever we pleased. I loved going out and chasing the lizards. It was my job to make sure none of them got inside! Once, I chased a lizard into the swimming pool, and Tom had to net it out.
Tom’s cousin (I’ll call him Cuz) had a boat that he kept in the water by his back yard. It’s like a floating truck, but I don’t think it had any wheels. Tom and Cuz went on the boat and did busy stuff several times. Then, one day, Tom said “Rover, let’s go for a ride!”
Rides always make me happy. I did my usual happy dance, and Tom put on my harness and leash. Then he led me out back by the boat. I thought we were going for a ride in his truck, so I was a little afraid to go in the boat. But, Tom lifted me in and said “Let’s go!”
Cuz started his boat and drove out onto the water, while Tom and I sat out on the front. It was a lot of fun sitting there watching everything go by. There weren’t any windows like in our truck, so I could look all around. Soon, we stopped at a gas place. I recognized it, because Tom stops his truck at places like this, too. I wanted the boat to go some more, so I whined to tell them about it.
After Cuz started driving the boat again, we turned around and went back the way we came. Pretty soon, Cuz said “Let’s run it out a bit”, and started driving the boat really fast! I was so happy! The front of the boat lifted up out of the water, and I could feel my ears blowing behind me! Then, suddenly, the front of the boat went crashing down and knocked me off my feet. Tom said, “It’s ok”, but I decided to lie low for a while just in case.
When we got close to Cuz’s den, he slowed down again and parked. It was a scary ride, but still lots of fun. I wonder if I’ll ever get to be on a boat again?
I love reading the blog but of course, this one was special. Hope Rover recovered OK from the ride,
enjoy Canada, ( by the way, they need the rain!)
Hi Rover!
We met you and Tom at the Ponderosa Pines Campground, do you remember? We are the two ladies with the tiny den-on-wheels from Germany. Your stories are funny and very adventurous! We will follow you.
Have fun!!!
Lots of hugs (do you like it?),
Fix and Boxi
